Public Safety Officer (Full Time, Night shift) (Security)
Job Summary
Polices hospital buildings, grounds, and offsite locations to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and injuries. Works under the direction of the Shift Supervisor and the Manager.
Job Specific Duties
- Adheres to attendance policies, guidelines, and expectations to ensure proper handoff, shift coverage, team collaboration, and safety of patients and staff.
- Provides exceptional customer service to all customers, patients, and co-workers, as measured by the department's customer service survey.
- Escorts visitors, patients, and employees within the hospital grounds when needed.
- Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by staff, visitors, physicians, or patients, writes incident reports, and documents investigations following hospital standards.
- Maintains logs and checklists, including security calls, dispatcher reports, camera footage, and door security.
- Patrols and secures campus buildings, limiting after-hours access by ensuring all doors are locked and secure, especially in sensitive areas.
- Reports safety and fire hazards observed during patrols and inspections.
- Responds to calls from medical staff and provides support per hospital guidelines and CPI training, such as assisting with Baker Acts and holding patients for medical treatment.
- Responds promptly to alarms, including panic alarms and emergency codes.
- Writes detailed incident reports and maintains daily activity logs following hospital standards.
- Conducts Fire Watches for construction areas every 1 to 2 hours or as needed.
- Performs ALSM Rounding in construction zones once daily, depending on project duration.
- Responds to elevator malfunctions to ensure safety.
- Monitors visitor registration areas, ensuring proper sign-in procedures for safety and security.
- Responds to emergency situations promptly, following protocols for specific codes such as Code Red or Code Strong.
- Escorts medical staff when transporting deceased patients.
- Monitors and escorts behavioral health patients to ensure safety and compliance with hospital and Baker Act standards, including assistance with holding when necessary.
- Secures the helipad during patient helicopter arrivals and departures.
- Conducts monthly AED checks during the 2nd or 3rd shift or as required for compliance.
- Provides continuous supervision and observation of behavioral health patients, utilizing non-violent crisis intervention strategies (CPI).
- Maintains active and in-good-standing certifications for American Heart Association AED and CPI within specified timeframes.
- Holds a valid State of Florida driver's license with an approved driving record, maintained throughout employment.
- Obtains and maintains a FL Security D License within 90 days of hire.
- Completes NCH Security Training Program after probation within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic Healthcare Security Officer Training or IAHSS certification preferred.
- Experience in hospital security preferred.
- Experience in customer service within hospitality preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
