Job Summary
Polices hospital buildings, grounds, and offsite locations to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and injuries. Works under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and the Manager.
Job Specific Duties
- Adheres to attendance policies, guidelines, and expectations, ensuring proper handoff, shift coverage, team collaboration, and safety of patients and staff.
- Provides excellent customer service to all customers, patients, and co-workers, as measured by the department's shared customer service survey.
- Escorts visitors, patients, and employees within hospital grounds as needed.
- Investigates incidents reported by staff, visitors, physicians, or patients, writes incident reports, and documents investigations per hospital standards.
- Maintains logs and checklists (security calls, dispatch, cameras, doors, etc.).
- Patrols and secures hospital buildings, ensuring after-hours access is limited to authorized areas by locking doors.
- Reports safety and fire hazards observed during patrols and inspections.
- Responds to calls from medical staff and provides support according to hospital guidelines and CPI training, including assisting with Baker acts and patient holds.
- Responds promptly to alarms such as panic alarms and emergency codes.
- Writes detailed incident reports and maintains daily activity logs.
- Conducts fire watches for construction areas every 1-2 hours or as needed.
- Performs ALSM rounding in construction areas daily, depending on project duration.
- Responds to elevator malfunctions, ensuring safety for patients, families, and staff.
- Monitors visitor registration areas to ensure proper sign-in procedures for safety and security.
- Responds timely to emergency situations, following protocols for specific codes (e.g., Code Red, Code Strong).
- Escorts medical staff when transporting deceased patients.
- Monitors and escorts psychiatric patients to ensure safety, following hospital standards and Baker Act guidelines.
- Secures the helipad during patient helicopter arrivals.
- Conducts monthly AED checks as required.
- Provides supervision and observation of behavioral health patients, utilizing non-violent crisis intervention strategies (CPI).
Qualifications
- American Heart Association AED certification within 30 days of hire, maintained throughout employment.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire, maintained throughout employment.
- Valid Florida driver’s license with an approved driving record, maintained throughout employment.
- Florida Security D License within 90 days of hire, maintained in good standing.
- Completion of NCH Security Training Program after probation, within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic Healthcare Security Officer training (IAHSS certification) preferred.
- Experience in hospital security preferred.
- Customer service experience in hospitality preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
