Public Safety Officer (Full Time, Evening shift) I (Security)
Job Summary
Polices hospital buildings, grounds, and offsite locations to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and injuries. Works under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and the Manager.
Job Specific Duties
- Adheres to attendance policies, guidelines, and expectations, ensuring proper handoff, shift coverage, team collaboration, and safety for patients and staff.
- Provides exceptional customer service to all customers, patients, and co-workers, as measured by the department’s customer service survey.
- Escorts visitors, patients, and employees within the hospital grounds when necessary.
- Investigates incidents reported by staff, visitors, physicians, or patients, writes incident reports, and documents investigations according to hospital standards.
- Maintains logs and checklists, including security calls, dispatch records, camera footage, and door security.
- Patrols and secures hospital buildings, ensuring all doors are locked and areas designated as sensitive are secure, especially after hours.
- Reports safety and fire hazards observed during patrols and inspections.
- Responds to calls from medical staff, providing support per hospital guidelines and CPI training, such as assisting with Baker acts and holding patients for medical treatment.
- Responds promptly to alarms, including panic alarms and emergency codes.
- Writes detailed incident reports and maintains daily activity logs.
- Conducts fire watches in areas under construction every 1-2 hours or as needed.
- Performs ALSM rounding in construction areas daily, depending on project duration.
- Responds to elevator malfunctions, ensuring safety for patients, families, and staff.
- Monitors visitor registration areas, ensuring proper sign-in procedures for safety and security.
- Responds to emergency situations following established protocols for codes such as Code Red and Code Strong.
- Escorts medical staff during the transport of deceased patients.
- Monitors and escorts behavioral health patients, ensuring safety and adherence to Baker Act guidelines, including assistance with holding patients if necessary.
- Secures the helipad during patient helicopter arrivals.
- Conducts monthly AED checks during the 2nd or 3rd shift, or as needed for compliance.
- Provides supervision and observation of behavioral health patients, utilizing non-violent crisis intervention strategies (CPI).
- Maintains active certifications: American Heart Association AED within 30 days of hire, CPI within 90 days, and Florida Security D License within 90 days.
- Possesses and maintains a valid Florida driver’s license with an approved driving record.
- Completes NCH Security Training Program within 6 months of probationary period.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic Security Officer Healthcare Training Course and IAHSS certification preferred.
- Experience in hospital security and customer service preferred.
- Basic proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Effective communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
