Job summary

Livingstone College seeks a Public Safety Officer/Evidence Coordinator to uphold college rules and regulations and ensure safety for campus personnel and property. The role includes intake, secure storage, tracking, and lawful disposal of physical and digital evidence with a strict chain of custody.

Responsibilities include responding to emergencies, patrolling, investigations, event support, and court testimony as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be 21+ years of age.
• Associates degree, bachelors preferred.
• Experience as a Public Safety Officer & Evidence handling preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Successfully complete drug screen and background investigation.
• Must be able to work assigned shifts.
• Must be available for on-call or special events.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Must work during inclement weather.
• Understand audit preparation, prepare for and represent the department during audits of evidence records and storing.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls and report crimes.
• Conduct routine patrols of the college properties.
• Investigate violations to include crimes.
• Assist students, staff, and faculty with building security.
• Render Medical Aid.
• Identify and report safety hazards.
• Parking management and enforcement.
• Assist with special events.
• Log all evidence transactions, ensuring absolute accountability from collection to disposal.
• Transport evidence to forensic laboratories if needed and deliver items to officers for court purposes.
• Coordinate the legal destruction of contraband, unreturned stolen goods, and expired evidence per guidelines.
• Testify in court if needed regarding chain of custody and handling procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
