Position Summary

The Public Safety Officer (PSO) is responsible for supporting Public Safety operations at CW facilities. Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergencies, conducting inspections, investigating incidents, de-escalating situations, restraining individuals if necessary, performing weapon screening, securing property/evidence, and liaising with law enforcement.

Position Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and insurability.
  • Certification or ability to complete IAHSS Basic certification within 6 months.
  • Certification or ability to complete Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS) within 3 months.
  • CPR certification (Basic Life Support) through AHA or ARC within 3 months.
  • Certification or ability to complete Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) within 1 year.
Education
  • High School diploma, GED, or HSED.
Experience
  • Minimum one year of security experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates behaviors aligned with Children’s values and mission.
  • Ability to read and write for incident reports and recordkeeping, typically acquired through high school education. Post-secondary coursework in criminal justice is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, especially in stressful situations.
  • Basic computer skills for using hospital systems and software (e.g., EPIC, CAD, Incident Reporting, Surveillance).
  • Analytical skills for inspecting areas, ensuring security, and preparing reports.
