Job summary

University of the Pacific, Sacramento Campus, seeks a Public Safety Officer to patrol campuses, enforce laws and campus policies, and ensure safety. You will respond to incidents, control access, and provide escorts.

The role requires a High School Diploma, POST 832 training within the first year, and current California BSIS Guard/Firearms and Baton permits, plus CPR/First Aid and pepper spray training. Valid CA driver license required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
• POST 832 PC training must be completed within the first year of employment.
• Three years of related work experience are required.
• A current California BSIS Guard and Firearms permit with a 40 cal endorsement is required.
• A current BSIS Baton permit is required.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification is required.
• Chemical Agent/Pepper Spray training certification is required.
• A valid California Driver License is required.

Responsibilities

• Advise, direct and provide information to students, employees and the public.
• Patrol designated areas by foot or bicycle and secure doors and windows.
• Respond to calls for service and assistance.
• Monitor alarms, access to buildings and restricted areas; inspect for hazards.
• Provide escort services by foot or vehicle and security for large gatherings.
• Administer first aid/CPR and testify in court if needed.
• Investigate incidents, prepare reports and enforce campus rules.
• Enforce parking regulations and operate safety equipment as directed.
• Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies and act as Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act.

Public Safety Officer

Under general supervision, the Public Safety Officer performs University of the Pacific, Sacramento Campus patrol and security related duties; enforces campus policies, state, county and city ordinances, and does other work as required.

Essential Functions

• Advises, directs and provides information to students, employees and the public.
• Patrols designated areas by foot or bicycle, and uses a publicsafety equipped vehicle and Sacramento Police radio. Patrols campusincluding buildings, grounds, parking lots and adjacent streets;sees that doors and windows are properly secured and locked;safeguards property of the Sacramento Campus. Assumes fixed postassignments.
• Responds to calls for service and assistance.
• Opens and closes facilities. Monitors alarm systems andresponds when necessary. Monitors and controls access to buildingsand restricted areas. Inspects buildings for security, fire, andpotential accident and/or hazards and takes preventive orcorrective action as appropriate.
• Provides escort services by foot and/or vehicle.
• Provides security for large gatherings and campusactivities.
• Administers first aid and CPR.
• Makes preliminary investigations and investigations of crimesand disorders, searches and arrests within scope of employment.Prepares reports. May testify in court.
• Enforces automobile parking regulations.
• Carries a firearm, baton, chemical agents, and handcuffs.
• Enforces rules and regulations of the University campus whilecooperating with other law enforcement agencies.
• Each Public Safety Officer may have additional duties that areassigned to their position, such as fire safety, training, lost andfound property, and work calendar.
• Performs other related duties as required.

This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlinedby the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities toreport crimes that are reported them.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must complete and pass the POST 832 PC training within thefirst year of employment.
• Three (3) years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid and current POST approved Basic Course Training, LevelIII, or the completion of POST approved Basic Police Academy or thecompletion of valid and current PC 832 certification.
• Three (3) years of related work experience in an institutionalor campus environment.
• Good customer relations skills and the ability to communicateclearly.
• Ability to think and act quickly and effectively inemergencies.
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and make appropriately decisions.
• Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and otheroffice related skills.
• Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diversebackgrounds and cultures.
• Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
• Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practicesand knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel

Work performed 40 hours per week and over-time as needed to ensure24/7 coverage or when responding to critical situations.

Hiring Range
