Overview

Performs a variety of duties to ensure the welfare of patients, employees, and visitors; protects grounds, buildings, equipment, and supplies of the hospital; makes decisions on the best way to obtain and maintain the security of the hospital, patients, employees, and visitors within departmental and hospital guidelines.

Responsibilities
  1. Patrols the exterior of the hospital and related buildings, checking the security of all doors and windows. Opens and secures areas as required. Checks for safety violations and conducts rounds throughout the hospital.
  2. Patrols parking lots and parking garages, monitors as necessary, and provides escorts in parking lots as required. Contacts vehicle owners for lights on, flat tires, etc.
  3. Patrols the interior of the hospital and related buildings. Enforces hospital policies and procedures relating to visitors, smoking, access control, proper passes, and badges.
  4. Collects, tags, and logs all lost and found articles.
  5. Responds to all Security Emergency calls, ensuring safety and making decisions to control the situation. Responsible for patient safety and coordination with law enforcement if necessary.
  6. Responds to fire alarms or reports of fire, assists fire department, and participates in fire drills.
  7. Handles patient assist calls, manages eloped patients, and contacts authorities if needed.
  8. Ensures safety during helicopter arrivals, maintains security around the helicopter, and assists in patient transport.
  9. Reviews reports and safety sheets, completes detailed reports, and logs entries.
  10. Staffs and maintains a dispatch center, monitors CCTV, door, and alarm systems, and initiates emergency procedures.
  11. Adheres to all department policies, procedures, and directives. Checks hospital email daily.
  12. Meets performance expectations in various areas outlined in performance reviews.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure safety and operational needs.
  14. Acts as Public Safety Charge Officer, liaising between officers and the director.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED minimum.

Experience: Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred.

Licensure: Connecticut State Security Permit required post-training, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record.

Special Skills: 160 hours of training, certification in CPI, and proficiency with handcuffs, pepper spray, and baton.
