Job description

Overview:

Under the direction of Quinnipiac University's Chief of Public Safety, we invite applications for the position of Armed Public Safety Officer. This role involves protecting and providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Officers will serve as liaisons to local law enforcement and may respond to emergencies on campus and nearby properties. Learn more about our department on our LinkedIn page.

Note: Newly hired officers will be assigned to either evening or overnight shifts, based on departmental needs. The hourly pay rate is $25.00, with shift differential pay for evening and overnight shifts.

Responsibilities:
Patrol Duties:
  • Respond to emergencies as the first armed responder on campus.
  • Investigate incidents, write reports, and coordinate with law enforcement.
  • Respond to off-campus emergencies on university properties.
  • Conduct patrols and security checks.
  • Detect and investigate criminal activity.
  • Detain individuals and issue citations or tow vehicles as needed.
Campus Security Services:
  • Perform 24/7 patrols, including vehicle, foot, and bicycle patrols.
  • Manage alarms and access control.
  • Report safety issues and serve as emergency contact after hours.
  • Assist community members and visitors.
  • Provide event security, escorts, and dignitary protection.
Residential Life/Student Affairs:
  • Respond to disturbances and emergencies in residence halls.
  • Assist with policy enforcement and searches as authorized.
Specialized Assignments:
  • Bike Patrol
  • Field Training Officer
Qualifications:
  • Retired law enforcement officer or at least two years of service with separation in good standing.
  • Current Connecticut Pistol Permit.
  • Ability to obtain Connecticut Armed Security Guard Firearms Permit.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Pass extensive background, psychological, physical, and drug tests.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Documentation Requirements:
  • Law enforcement training academy graduation letter or certificate.
  • Recommendation letter from previous Police Chief.
  • Current Connecticut Pistol Permit.
  • Valid driver’s license and DMV record.
Physical and Communication Skills:
  • Mobility, strength, and vision requirements as specified.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant computer equipment and software.
