Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Security Officer to provide protection for patients, staff and hospital properties. You will patrol facilities, inspect entry points, record incidents and cooperate with local authorities as needed.

The role supports a 3:00PM-11:30PM shift in a non-exempt, on-site environment with potential signing bonus eligibility discussed in interviews.

Qualifications

• Three years related experience &/or training in public safety.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Complete initial 8 hour Hospital Orientation & Annual Competency Reviews & any mandated training.
• Annual re-certifications in CPR, TB fit testing, Hazard Communication, Fire Suppression & Hazard Recognition, Self Defense & Violent Situations Training, Emergency Response Team trainings.
• Avade 2 (restraint) training within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide security for the safety and protection of hospital patients, staff, public, and property.
• Periodically patrol hospital buildings and grounds.
• Inspect doors, windows and entry points to ensure security.
• Record unlocked points and warn violators of infractions; apprehend or expel suspicious individuals.
• Observe and report irregularities; assist local authorities as needed.
• Maintain incident reports and assist hospital staff ensuring safety.

Hiring Range: $17.36 - $31.26 Please note that the final offer may vary within this range based on a candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations .

Schedule Details: Holidays - Every Other Holiday, Monday through Friday, On Call - Required, Weekends - Every Other Weekend

Provide security for the safety & protection of Hospitals patients, staff, general public, & properties. Periodically patrols buildings & grounds of Hospital. Examines doors, windows, & other points of entry to determine that they are secure. Tags & records all points of entry found unlocked or unsecured. Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, & apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts, in accordance to applicable laws. Watches for & reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, & security doors left unlocked.

Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of Hospital property.

Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, & other acts of suspicious instances. Records all incidents in writing or electronic media. Assists local authorities with investigation of incidents committed on Hospital properties. Reports all criminal acts to the appropriate Security Leadership & or local authorities. Assists Hospital staff as required providing protection & safety to patients or other individuals. Adheres to all general orders & or special orders as directed.

I. Major Responsibilities

1. Participates in the Hospital emergency room programs.
2. Ability to effectively deal with a wide range of public safety issues handling a multitude of variables in changing situations.
3. Ability to interpret and understand written & oral instructions.
4. Ability to apply common sense understanding to instructions that may be furnished by way of written document, oral command or diagram.
5. Ability to cooperate with law enforcement agencies consistent with the Hospital's legal obligation to protect the rights & privileges of its patients in accordance with Federal & State Laws.

II. Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education: Required:

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
2. Obtain & satisfactorily complete the initial 8 hour Hospital Orientation Program & Annual Competency Reviews & any other training as may be occasionally mandated.
3. Obtain & satisfactorily complete annual (or biannual as applicable) re-certifications in: CPR (Cardio Pulmonary resuscitation; Fit testing for Tuberculosis Respirator Masks; Hazard Communication Program; Annual Fire Suppression & Hazard Recognition Training; Annual Self Defense & Management of Violent Situations Training; Annual Training & physical completion for the Emergency Response Team; & other training as may be determined by the Supervisor of Public Safety.
4. Avade 2 (restraint) training completion required within 6 months of hire into role.

Experience/Skills: Required:

1. Three years related experience &/or training in public safety.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education
