Job summary

Florence Regional Airport is seeking a highly capable airport safety and security professional to perform ARFF, law enforcement, and EMS duties under limited supervision. The role requires adherence to FAR Part 139, TSA regulations, and ASP/AEP compliance while providing customer service to airport stakeholders.

Responsibilities include operating ARFF equipment, conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

• FAR 139 Airport firefighter certification within 3 months of hire.

Job description

Under limited supervision, performs all duties related to airport safety and security, aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF), emergency medical services, general law enforcement on airport property, and law enforcement duties as specified by the appropriate federal, state, and local authorities for anti-terrorism security. This position provides customer service, communicates, and assists all airport stakeholders daily. Subject to recall twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Perform all other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Communicates and interacts with individuals and groups including immediate supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, Airport department heads, tenants, passengers, airline personnel, local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
• Perform all required duties with minimal supervision.
• Must have strong communication and de-escalation skills.
• Participates in airfield training to ensure safe movements and proper conditions as required by FAR Part 139.
• Operates all communications equipment including computers, telephones, radios, RMS software, access control systems and security cameras.
• Assists with general housekeeping at public safety facility.
• Participates in training to maintain certifications.
• All other duties as assigned.

Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF)

• Responds to aircraft emergencies to perform fire suppression and rescue operations.Responds to all other emergency calls on or adjacent to airport property.
• Ability to operate ARFF vehicles and related support equipment. Performs daily inspections and routine maintenance on all vehicles.
• Follow established procedures for handling, removal, and disposition of hazardous materials.
• Assists with facility fire extinguisher inspections, facility fire and life safety inspections and fuel truck inspections.
• Perform airfield inspections to maintain compliance with FAR Part 139.

Law Enforcement

• Enforces the laws of the State of South Carolina. Performs security checks and conducts traffic control functions as necessary.
• Responds to all alarms activated on Property. Investigates all crimes and traffic accidents which occur on Property and performs security checks on all Airport tenant businesses.
• Ensures compliance with the Airport Security Plan (ASP), Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), Airport Rules and Regulations and all applicable TSA regulations.
• Proficient in the use of all weapons, computers, radios, and cameras.
• Proficient in the collection of information and the completion of forms which include incident reports, booking reports, victims' rights, daily activity log, uniform traffic summons/traffic collision reports, chain of custody forms and any other forms deemed necessary.
• Participates in training to maintain class one law enforcement officer certification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Registered voter in the state of South Carolina
• Active Class I Law Enforcement Officer (or within the past 12 months) or Active Criminal Justice Academy Class-1 Law Enforcement, Group One South Carolina Constable Commission.
• Consent to and pass random drug screenings.
• Pass preemployment background investigation which includes: a criminal history, and credit checks.
• Ability to meet the department’s minimum standards on physical fitness/ability test.
• Ability to pass annual medical evaluation and fit test which shows ability to wear a respirator.
• Obtain FAR 139 Airport firefighter certification (40-hour course) within 3 months of hire (paid for by the Airport).
• Ability to work 24hr on and 48hr off schedule.
• Fluent in English, with the ability to speak, read and write.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is classified as "heavy" to "very heavy" work in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This position requires the ability to work in inclement weather; extreme heat and cold on occasion and ability to work in confined spaces and/or high spaces; climbing ladders, scaffolding, etc. This position is subject to work with exposure to toxic chemicals on occasion and noxious chemicals on a regular basis; occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens or bodily fluids and extreme noise and hazards such as proximity to moving or mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electric current, etc. Physical demands are more than those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk and/or run. Must be physically fit and be able to defend oneself from attack or physical assault. Must be able to lift and/or carry victims of varying weights.
