Job summary

The City of Lynchburg is seeking an IT support professional to maintain and enhance the fire department's network infrastructure and mission-critical systems. Duties include desktop and mobile support, training, and handling high-priority public safety software.

Responsibilities also cover device management, inventory tracking, vendor coordination, and after-hours on-call support as needed to ensure continuous operation of public safety technology.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a related field; 2–4 years in computer-related work.
• Experience implementing security controls and educating others; or equivalent combo of education and experience.
• Valid driving record per City of Lynchburg criteria.

• Provides new PC support and training for recipients.
• Backups and restorations for department computers and laptops.
• Answers help desk calls and troubleshoots hardware and software problems.
• Develops and provides in-house training for employees.
• Maintains and supports mission-critical fire department systems and public safety software.
• Provides technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for fire department technologies including mobile data terminals, reporting software, and radio equipment.
• Administers and maintains the department’s Mobile Device Management platform.
• Tracks and maintains inventory for all fire department IT assets.
• Interfaces with vendor support for OS and software upgrades.
• Subject to after-hours calls for system and network operations.

Performs operational support for fire department network infrastructure and mission-critical technologies, including desktop and mobile support and specialized public safety applications by performing the following duties.

• Provides new PC support and training for recipients.
• Provides backup and restoration services department computers and laptops
• Answers "help desk" calls from departmental users and troubleshoots both hardware and software problems
• Develops and provides in-house training for employees
• Maintains and supports mission-critical fire department systems and public safety software
• Provides technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for fire department technologies, including mobile data terminals, reporting software, and radio equipment.
• Administers and maintains the department’s Mobile Device Management platform
• Track and maintain accurate inventory records for all fire department IT assets
• Interfaces with vendor technical support and assist with operating system and software upgrades
• Subject to call after hours for system and network operations when required, including nights and weekends

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

Associate's degree with major work in a related field and some (2-4 years) experience in a computer related field, including experience with implementing security controls and educating others; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have an acceptable driving record based on City of Lynchburg driving criteria.
