Job summary

City of Lynchburg is seeking an IT support specialist to provide operational support for fire department network infrastructure and mission-critical technologies, including desktop and mobile support and public safety applications.

The role includes after-hours on-call, training staff, maintaining MDM and inventory, and coordinating with vendors to upgrade systems.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2-4 years of experience in a computer-related field, including security controls.
• Ability to provide desktop and mobile support for public safety applications.

Responsibilities

• Provides new PC support and training for recipients.
• Provides backup and restoration services for department computers and laptops.

• Maintains and supports mission-critical fire department systems and public safety software

• Administers and maintains the department’s Mobile Device Management platform
• Track and maintain accurate inventory records for all fire department IT assets
• Interfaces with vendor technical support and assist with operating system and software upgrades
• Subject to call after hours for system and network operations when required, including nights and weekends

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
• When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

Associate's degree with major work in a related field and some (2-4 years) experience in a computer related field, including experience with implementing security controls and educating others; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have an acceptable driving record based on City of Lynchburg driving criteria.
