Job summary

Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital seeks a Public Safety Officer to safeguard patients, staff and visitors while responding to emergencies and de-escalating critical events. The role includes on-boarding new employees and delivering safety training within the facility.

The position requires a GED or high school diploma, state driver’s license, and security experience. Certifications such as firearms, Taser, and first aid are expected, with POST certification preferred.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
• 2 years in general security, military, or other public safety experience where to actively carry a firearm in the regular course of duty Required or
• An equivalence of training and job experience to support effective demonstration of responsible handling of weapons and use of force Required
• DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid Driver's license & adhere to Piedmont's Healthcare Vehicle Safety Program policy 3500 Upon Hire Required and
• IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer within 1 Year Required and
• Must pass pre-employment psychological screening Upon Hire Required and
• Must pass and maintain all training requirements to maintain employment to include certifications in Firearms, Taser, ASP Baton, Mental Health First Aid, and others as directed Upon Hire Required
• Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certification Preferred

Responsibilities

• Responsible for a variety of routine safety and emergency security activities while safeguarding students, employees, visitors, patients and property.
• Conducts Public Safety training and development programs.
• First responder to all emergency incidents within the assigned facility.
• Responsible for the safe de-escalation of critical events and the use of sound judgment in the engagement with combative or escalating subjects.
• Functions as an informal resource to colleagues, conducts training and on-boards for new employees.
