Job summary

CITY OF CLEVELAND in Cleveland, TX is seeking a 911 dispatcher to handle emergency and non-emergency calls, collect critical information, and dispatch police, fire, or EMS units. You will remain calm, provide life-saving instructions, and coordinate responses to ensure community safety.

The role requires knowledge of TCIC/NCIC, ability to work in a high-stress environment, and successful completion of required licenses; promising background in public safety telecommunications is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of police emergency response practices and procedures
• TCIC/NCIC and TLETS/NLETS rules, regulations and requirements
• Methods, practices and procedures for responding to and dispatching emergency services
• Computers and related equipment for researching, retrieving, and maintaining databases
• State, federal and municipal laws applicable to the position
• Geographic area served and related areas

Responsibilities

• Answers emergency telephone lines for Fire, Police and EMS; gather information from callers and assess priority of response
• Operates multi-line telephone systems, radios, and computer-aided dispatch equipment; documents calls and actions
• Provides crisis management and supports callers in trauma or panic; coordinates communications to centers and agencies
• Relays information to Fire, EMS and Police Officers; notifies entities related to problems or complaints
• Communicates with other agencies for mutual aid and facilitates interdepartmental communication during large events
• Supports emergency management during disasters or mass casualty incidents
• Enters and maintains information in TCIC/NCIC and TLETS/NLETS databases
• Trains and supports new hires and part-time dispatch staff
• Ensures record accuracy and keeps databases up to date
