Douglas County is seeking candidates for the position of Communication Dispatcher to operate telecommunications equipment, receive and transfer calls, and dispatch police, fire, and other public safety units. Training is provided, and incumbents must become certified as emergency medical dispatchers within the first year.

The role requires working night, weekend, and holiday shifts in a 24/7 operation. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and may need prior dispatch experience.

Formación

• High School Diploma or GED certification required.
• One year of full-time experience dispatching two or more types of public safety agencies (e.g., police and fire) or eighteen months dispatching one type of public safety agency (e.g., police or fire) preferred, but not required.

Responsabilidades

• Operate a variety of telecommunications equipment to receive and transfer calls.
• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and prioritize requests for assistance.
• Read and interpret maps to pinpoint emergency areas and give directions to responders.
• Dispatch and coordinate responses of public safety agencies.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions for medical calls.
• Maintain detailed records of dispatch activities.
• Participate in training and perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
