Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a Public Safety Dispatcher to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch law enforcement and EMS units, and monitor radio channels 24/7. You will operate multiple systems, maintain records, and ensure safety for staff, offenders, and the public.

The role requires a high school diploma, possible Associate degree substitution, and certification eligibility for Class IV Telecommunications Operator.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• An associate degree in a technical communications discipline may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be able to obtain Class IV Telecommunications Operator Certification.
• Knowledge of FCC rules for public safety information transmission.
• Ability to operate modern communications systems and multiple databases.

Responsibilities

• Monitor radio channels and dispatch public safety resources as needed.
• Provide supplemental video surveillance monitoring and report irregular activity.
• Notify personnel of emergencies and non-routine incidents per policy.
• Maintain logs of transmissions and dispatch activities.
• Demonstrate exceptional customer service to visitors and staff.
