Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a Public Safety Dispatch Officer to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch units, and operate communications networks around the clock.

The role requires maintaining strict incident logs, certifications, and rapid, accurate communications to ensure safety for youth and staff. Essential employee with 12-hour rotating shifts; on-site work only.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree may substitute.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate public safety communications equipment.
• Experience with voice communications systems or central switchboard operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor radio channels and dispatch public safety resources.
• Provide video surveillance monitoring and notify supervisors of irregular activity.
• Enter and track incident reports and maintain logs.
• Maintain NCIC/SLED/FBI/SC CJIS credentials and complete fingerprinting.
• Operate agency badge system and issue employee IDs.
• Serve as reception and provide customer service to visitors.
• Be available for on-call emergency recall as needed.
