Block Island Harbors Department in Pennsylvania is seeking a Public Safety Dispatch to handle routine and emergency calls for police, fire, EMS, and harbor services. The position is unionized and may require night, weekend and holiday coverage.

Union position affiliated with Council 94 and is classified as Labor Grade E. 20-40 hours per week (may have to work nights, weekends and holidays).
Step 1 starts at $23.05 per hour. Upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period, a Step and wage increase is possible. Benefits eligible.
Dispatchers are responsible for the handling of routine and emergency public assistance calls for police, fire, emergency medical services and in-station requests from members of the public.
Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong computer, data entry, and database management skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Applicants must possess a demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful and emergency situations; multi-task and function well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; maintain a high degree of maturity, strict confidentiality, and exercise discretion in the handling of sensitive and confidential information.
Applicants must also be able to establish and maintain successful working relationships with fellow employees, the public, and others in a courteous manner, and deal tactfully, respectfully, and effectively with the public in both routine and crisis situations.
