Job summary

The City of Ridgeland seeks a Police Officer to protect life and property by enforcing local ordinances and state and federal law. You will monitor traffic, respond to incidents, and conduct investigations in a designated area of the city.

Under supervision, you will perform essential duties such as crime prevention, public safety outreach, and incident reporting, while adhering to policies and procedures and maintaining professional standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to in-progress or recent criminal activity to restore or maintain order and gather initial reports.
• Conduct in-depth investigations of criminal or traffic incidents, independently or with others.
• Gather and report intelligence to aid in solving or preventing crimes.
• Resolve conflicts of potentially violent nature among participants.
• Provide counseling, referrals, and follow-up to prevent criminality.
• Patrol assigned area for quick response to calls and observe activity and gather intelligence.
• Attend community meetings and represent the Ridgeland Police Department and the City.
• Observe and follow up on conditions posing threats to public safety.
