Job summary

City of Long Beach invites college students to apply for the Police Cadet - Non Career program with LBPD. This part-time, at-will role provides hands-on exposure to operations, community outreach, and potential career paths in law enforcement.

Cadets support front desk and administrative tasks, assist detectives, and interact with the public while upholding professional standards. Applicants must have a high school diploma, be enrolled in college with a 2.5+ GPA, be 18+, and be available for

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Current enrollment in an accredited college with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or proof of acceptance.
• Must be at least 18 years old prior to start of employment.
• Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrated interest in law enforcement or public safety is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and assistance to the public by telephone, in person, and through other channels.
• Develop relationships with community members and demonstrate trust and professionalism.
• Assist with front-desk operations, administrative duties, and departmental activities.
• Assist detectives and other divisions with clerical tasks.
• Answer lines, direct inquiries, and maintain confidentiality of records.
• Learn about police operations and potential career pathways in public safety.
