Qualifications

• Advanced Excel capabilities (PivotTables, Power Query, Power Pivot, XLOOKUP, dynamic formulas)
• Experience creating dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools
• Experience querying and validating large datasets in relational databases
• Experience developing KPIs, trend analysis, forecasting, and executive reporting
• Experience with data automation, process improvement, or data-quality initiatives
• Interest in GIS, emerging tech, and AI-assisted tools for analytics and workflow

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, building meaningful dashboards, exploring new technology, and using data to improve public safety operations.The successful candidate will work closely with the Public Safety Analyst II, department leadership, and operational staff to modernize reporting processes, develop meaningful performance measures, improve data quality, and support data-driven decision-making throughout ECCS.The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, initiative, effective communication, and a commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.The ideal candidate will have experience or demonstrated aptitude in several of the following areas:Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with tools such as PivotTables, Power Query, Power Pivot, XLOOKUP, dynamic formulas, or dashboard development.Experience developing dashboards or data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or comparable business intelligence platforms.Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, with experience querying, validating, or analyzing large datasets.Experience developing or supporting performance measures, KPIs, trend analysis, forecasting, operational metrics, or executive-level reporting.Experience or demonstrated aptitude in data automation, process improvement, reporting efficiency, or data-quality improvement.Experience or interest in GIS, emerging technologies, and AI-assisted tools used to support analysis, reporting, visualization, or workflow improvement.What you'll help build:Business intelligence and executive dashboards.Automated operational reporting and streamlined workflows.Public safety performance metrics, trend analysis, and decision-support analytics.GIS-based operational analysis and geographic data visualization.Data quality, governance, and reporting improvements.Public Safety Analyst I duties may include the following:Analyzing operational data to identify trends, measure performance, and support departmental decision-making.Developing and maintaining dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other business intelligence tools.Assisting with the development and monitoring of key performance indicators, operational metrics, workload measures, response-time data, call center performance, and other performance measures.Preparing reports, presentations, working papers, and analytical materials that communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.Supporting short- and long-range planning, forecasting, research, and project evaluation through analysis of operational trends and resource needs.Assisting with data validation, reporting accuracy, standardized metrics, data-quality improvement, and development of reusable reporting datasets.Identifying opportunities to automate recurring reports, streamline workflows, reduce manual processes, and support continuous-improvement initiatives.Supporting GIS-based analysis and exploring appropriate uses of emerging technologies and AI-assisted tools for research, reporting, data analysis, visualization, and workflow efficiency in accordance with City policies and security requirements.Collaborating with department leadership, operational staff, and technical partners to identify analytical and reporting needs and develop appropriate solutions.Minimum Requirements:Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in fields such as computer science, business administration, public administration or police work that utilizes the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Anticipated start date: December 3, 2026.
