Job summary

The City of Bartow is seeking a dedicated Public Safety Dispatcher to support the Police and Fire Communications Center. You will interview callers, determine appropriate responses, and coordinate with ambulance services and other agencies using a CAD system.

The role requires calm decision making under stress, strong communication skills, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Florida licensure and certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; equivalent combinations may be considered.
• Must maintain FCIC/NCIC Operators and 911 certification; CPR certification preferred.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Operate a multi‑line telephone to interview callers and classify requests.
• Direct calls to appropriate departments and answer routine questions.
• Operate the Computer Aided Dispatch System for Police and Fire responses.
• Notify dispatch of service requests and maintain radio logs.
• Receive and forward service requests and messages; maintain records.
• Maintain familiarity with operating procedures of served agencies.
