Job summary

Montgomery County seeks a skilled policy and intergovernmental relations professional to maintain relationships with local, state, and federal officials and agencies. You will monitor proposals, advocate for county priorities, and coordinate advocacy strategies across county departments.

You will represent the county in meetings and prepare briefing materials, talking points, and presentations. Strong communication, research, and project management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, law, or related field; Master's preferred.
• Extensive experience in government relations, legislative affairs, or intergovernmental relations.
• Strong understanding of government structures and policy-making at local, state, and federal levels.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to advocate for county interests.
• Political acumen and strategic thinking; ability to build consensus.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with elected officials, agencies and stakeholders.
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills for analyzing legislation.
• Project management skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in advocacy work.
• Passion for public service representing Montgomery County's interests.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain relationships with elected officials, agencies, and stakeholders at local, state, and federal levels.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for intergovernmental communications, coordinating Montgomery County with external entities.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at multiple levels and analyze impact on county operations.
• Advocate for Montgomery County's interests through engagement with officials and staff in person and in writing.
• Coordinate with county departments and officials to advance legislative priorities and policy positions.
• Represent Montgomery County in intergovernmental meetings, hearings and forums to present positions and build partnerships.
• Prepare briefing materials, talking points and presentations on intergovernmental issues and advocacy efforts.
• Cultivate relationships with nonprofits, advocacy groups, and industry associations to advance shared objectives.
• Track and report on legislative and advocacy activities and outcomes to leadership.
• Collaborate with communications teams to develop messaging and outreach for intergovernmental advocacy.
