Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Project Outreach Specialist to support field customer relations and outreach for transmission projects. You will identify and coordinate outreach strategies, engage with landowners and officials, and help surface issues to inform the siting process.

The role requires strong writing and public speaking skills, interpersonal abilities, and business knowledge, with travel anticipated 25–50% and multiple grade levels with advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree requirement in journalism, business, marketing, customer service, advertising, communications, public relations or public affairs or related field.
• Minimum two years of experience in Utilities, Corporate Communications, Customer Service, Marketing, Media Relations, Journalism, or related field.
• Travel 25-50% expected; sedentary physical demands; may require extended hours and overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with affected or potentially affected landowners to gain beneficial project routing information and resolve issues before and during the transmission line routing process.
• Support efforts to work with external affairs teams and educate the public about proposed transmission projects.
• Assist and support of customer outreach strategies that improve two-way communications and line routing success.
• Provide field support to transmission siting, line engineering, right of way, and project management team to ensure projects are executed on time.
• Provide support to Outreach Specialist and work closely with Project Management, Line and Station Engineering, Right of Way, Corporate Communications, and External Affairs to foster two-way communications between key stakeholders and the project team to improve success in siting transmission projects.
• Coordinate deployment of resources accordingly.
