Job summary

Ball State University seeks an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Dean of Media and General Manager of BSU Public Media. You will provide strategic direction for Indiana Public Radio and Ball State PBS, overseeing digital platforms, audience growth, and financial stewardship while advancing CCIM's academic mission.

You will lead fundraising, community engagement, and regulatory compliance, and contribute to student success through teaching and experiential learning initiatives within CCIM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, business, or related field by date of employment.
• Minimum of 5 years of media/broadcast management with demonstrated leadership in budgeting, fundraising, and team building.
• Expertise in digital-first distribution, audience analytics, public speaking, FCC regulatory governance, and cross-platform newsroom operations and content creation.
• Preferred 7+ years in public media leadership and 2 years in a university setting.

Responsibilities

• Integrated Ecosystem Leadership: unify Indiana Public Radio and Ball State PBS into an agile, cross-platform news operation.
• Audience Development & Community Engagement: expand public support and multi-platform engagement.
• Resource Management & Revenue Diversification: manage budgets, grants, underwriting, and major gifts.
• Technology Infrastructure & Emerging Media: lead core tech and distribution technologies across platforms.
• Student Experiential Learning & Pedagogy: lead Public Media Accelerator Program and teach 9 credit hours annually.
• Organizational Leadership: oversee talent, performance, and HR compliance, fostering an inclusive culture.
• Regulatory Compliance: ensure FCC compliance and manage licenses for stations and channels.
