Job summary

City of Abilene's Main Branch is seeking a Library Assistant I to support the circulation desk, help patrons register for library cards, and assist with online catalogs and digital resources.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED (associate's degree preferred), and at least one year of public-facing experience; a Texas driver's license is preferred. Evening and weekend shifts are possible in a busy library setting.

Qualifications

• One year of public contact and/or customer service experience and familiarity with basic library procedures and computers.
• Previous clerical or library clerical experience in a public library is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves at the circulation desk checking in/out materials and registering patrons.
• Collects overdue fines and assists patrons with reference information.
• enters and updates patron and material information in the library database.
• Shelves materials, reads shelves, and creates displays for a neat collection.
• Provides Readers Advisory service to patrons and staff and assists with online catalog and digital resources.
• Assists with hands-on computer use, printing, and photocopying.
• Maintains and cleans the audiovisual collection and handles holds/missing items tasks.
• Assists with interlibrary loan tasks and other related duties as assigned.
