Job summary

The Town of Blacksburg is seeking a Public Liaison Assistant to deliver professional police services to the public while providing administrative support to officers. The role includes greeting visitors, handling inquiries, and coordinating with resources.

It requires rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends, and completion of a 40-hour emergency dispatching training program with VCIN certification within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; clerical or communications experience is desirable.
• Ability to enter data into multiple computer programs and spreadsheets.
• Capable of staying calm in emergencies and relaying messages quickly.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for all visitors to the Police Department.
• Receive inquiries from the public and direct them to appropriate resources.
• Operate and monitor VCIN/NCIC, CAD software, and digital mapping software.
• Monitor radio frequencies for police, fire, and rescue and coordinate communications.
• Transmit police messages by radio and telephone and direct officers as needed.
• Assist officers by researching information using computer programs.
• Perform clerical duties and maintain logs.
• Create and share daily intelligence bulletins with relevant personnel.
• Monitor alarm systems and security cameras at various locations.
