Job summary

The City and County of San Francisco seeks a Public Information professional to administer and educate the public about the department's facilities, events, and activities. Responsibilities include developing publicity releases, coordinating online coverage, and preparing reports for the department head and Commission.

The role involves organizing community meetings, managing press contacts, and ensuring quality control of publicity materials across print, broadcast, and digital channels.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of professional experience in public relations, public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, social media, digital engagement, advertising, marketing or similar work directly responsible for the preparation and dissemination of news and information in a variety of formats for internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop publicity releases of department events, programs and activities for print, broadcast, and online media.
• Coordinate the review of online coverage and maintain a file of press clippings.
• Prepare administrative studies and reports with supporting data for the department head or the Commission.
• Attend meetings of the commission, executive staff and conferences with professional societies.
• Formulate and carry out a public information program, select and distribute publicity releases, and post social media announcements.
• Make regular contacts with the public and outside organizations to explain policies and procedures.
• Coordinate design and production quality control of artwork for advertising materials.
• Coordinate the dissemination of information for mass media on public information programs.
• Review and update departmental websites.
