Job summary

City and County of San Francisco is seeking a Public Information Officer (1312) for a citywide recruitment, currently open to current city employees. This exempt to permanent position administers public information programs to educate the public about department facilities and activities.

Responsibilities include developing press releases, coordinating online coverage, preparing reports, and organizing community meetings and events.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of professional experience in public relations, public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, social media, digital engagement, advertising, marketing or similar work directly responsible for the preparation and dissemination of news and information in a variety of formats for internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develops publicity releases of department's events, programs and activities for print, broadcast, and online media; prepares weekly lists of departmental activities; transmits to publicity outlets; prepares departmental publications.
• Coordinates the review of online coverage; maintains a file of press clippings; edits publicity material; prepares departmental directories; maintains mailing lists.
• Prepares administrative studies and reports with supporting data; conducts historical research; writes press releases.
• Attends commission meetings and conferences; reports to department head or division.
• Carries out a program of public information and education on department facilities; distributes publicity releases; posts social media and updates websites.
• Makes regular contacts with the public and external organizations to explain policy and procedures.
• Coordinates existing policy for publicity and recommends new approaches.
• Coordinates design and production of art work for advertising materials such as posters, brochures, and signs.
