Job summary

County of Humboldt in Eureka, CA seeks a Public Information Specialist to support senior management and the Board by handling public information, responding to records requests, coordinating media relations, and developing information materials.

Under general supervision, the incumbent researches responses for Public Records Act requests, drafts official responses, and serves as deputy PIO during disasters.

Qualifications

• Public information/relations knowledge and media outreach experience.
• Experience drafting news releases and managing public information materials.
• Ability to respond to public records requests under legal guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Responds to public records requests and coordinates with County Counsel.
• Gathers information and drafts official responses for management review.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with media, civic groups and the public.
• Designs and coordinates production of public information materials.
• Prepares information releases for emergencies or disasters.
• Represents the County before community groups when needed.
