Job summary

The City of Westerville is seeking a Public Information Officer to support Communications for the City’s Police, Fire, WED and Water divisions. Based at City Hall, you will manage public information during emergencies and oversee social media content, press relations and city communications.

Minimum five years in public information or PR, plus a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field. Strong AP style writing required and experience with graphic design tools preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications/Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
• Five or more years in public information, communications or PR.
• Excellent writing and editing skills with AP Style.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for public information management.
• Experience in social media and digital communications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote a positive, proactive relationship with the media.
• Coordinate with the Community Affairs Manager on PIO duties.
• Monitor and uphold the City brand across departments and external entities.
• Support communication activities for City departments and divisions.
• Develop and execute advertising for public safety programs.
• Support production of special events and city communications.
