Job summary

RCESD in Pecos, TX is seeking a Public Information Officer to lead public communications for RCESD Nos. 1 & 2. You will act as the official spokesperson and coordinate media relations, digital communications, and public affairs.

You’ll advise district leadership on messaging, manage press content, and oversee emergency public information, ensuring timely, accurate information across platforms.

Qualifications

• Advanced ability to write, edit, and present clear professional communications for public, media, executive, Board, employee, and emergency audiences.
• Working knowledge of media relations, crisis communication, public affairs, community engagement, branding, and analytics.
• Proficiency with public records handling and Texas Public Information Act expectations.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement communications, public information, media relations, branding, digital communications, and community engagement strategies.
• Serve as the District's Public Information Officer and official spokesperson when designated.
• Advise executive leadership on public messaging, crisis communications, and community engagement.
• Prepare and distribute press releases, media statements, public notices, speeches, newsletters, and other content.
• Coordinate media inquiries, briefings, press conferences, and on-scene media access.
• Coordinate emergency public information during significant incidents and severe weather.
• Maintain the District's website and social media platforms, including an editorial calendar.
• Create written, photographic, graphic, audio, and video content; ensure accessibility and approval workflows.
