Kind of Work

The Public Health Program Coordinator will develop, implement, oversee, and coordinate internal and external communication strategies that enhance public understanding of key health initiatives, public health risks, and programs. This role will serve as communications specialist for the Public Health Division and ensure clear, transparent, and accessible messaging across multiple platforms while engaging with community stakeholders, media, and the public to promote public health programs and priorities. This position is part of the Public Health Division management team and will develop and maintain a division-wide health communications promotion plan.

  • Evaluation and continuous improvement

Previous experience with public health communication theory and practice, infodemiology, health literacy and content creation would be beneficial for this position.

The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $34.70 - $49.45 per hour.

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

Distinguishing Features of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for administering public health programs, grants and contracts. Duties include managing health intervention programs; evaluating program outcomes and implementing improvements; participating in the local public health assessment and planning process; assisting with the development and evaluation of staff core competencies. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

OCCASIONAL: Lift up to 20 pounds; use fingers; kneel; reach above shoulder; squat; twist at waist; blood-borne pathogens; slippery surfaces; and work around others.

Selection Process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail)

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, communication or a closely related field AND five (5) years full-time paid verifiable professional experience in Community based education; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in health education, public health, communication or a closely related field AND three (3) years full-time paid verifiable professional experience in Community based education.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

RATING SYSTEM:

Supplemental Questions will be 60% of the scoring process:

Points will be awarded based on the applicants answers to supplemental questions 9-13.

Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.

  • Week of July 14, 2025 - Interviews to be conducted
