Ohio Department of Health is seeking an experienced Assistant Bureau Chief for the Bureau of Health Preparedness. You will lead a team of managers and staff to advance engagement and accountability across statewide emergency preparedness and response initiatives.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong communication, and the ability to guide complex disaster responses while fostering an inclusive, collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

• 5 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file.
• Graduate core program in public health or related field; 2 yrs exp in health program planning.
• 2 yrs exp as Health Planning Administrator 1 (65245) with relevant experience.
• 12 mos exp as Health Planning Administrator 2 (65246) with relevant experience.
• Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for bureau operations, including workforce management, program planning, and policy implementation.
• Partner with the Bureau Chief in statewide emergency preparedness and response planning.
• Lead and develop managers and staff, cultivating an engaged, positive, and collaborative culture while strengthening communication and employee relations.
• Direct multi-program work plans, budgets, and federal grant activities.
• Represent bureau with internal and external partners, participating in interagency workgroups and supporting emergency response operations (including 24/7 deployments).
