Job summary

Ohio Department of Health seeks an experienced Assistant Bureau Chief in the Bureau of Health Preparedness. You will lead statewide emergency preparedness efforts and collaborate with agency leadership to advance engagement and accountability across programs.

The role requires strategic thinking and strong communication to guide managers, ensure a positive work environment, and respond to disasters with effective leadership and planning.

Qualifications

• 5 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs.
• Graduate core program in field of public health or related field or public policy & management/public administration or business administration; 2 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs.
• Or 12 mos. exp. as Health Planning Administrator 2 or 2 yrs. exp. as Health Planning Administrator 1; equivalent qualifications on file.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for bureau operations, including workforce management, program planning, and policy implementation.
• Serve as a key partner to the Bureau Chief and agency leadership in statewide emergency preparedness and response planning, including acting on behalf of the Bureau Chief as assigned.
• Lead and develop managers and staff, cultivating an engaged, positive, and collaborative culture while strengthening communication and employee relations.
• Direct and coordinate multi-program work plans, budgets, and federal grant activities; ensure alignment with state and federal requirements and agency priorities.
• Represent the bureau with internal and external partners, responding to inquiries, participating in interagency workgroups, and supporting emergency response operations as needed (including 24/7 deployments).
