Forsyth County Department of Public Health has an opening for a Public Health Nurse II. This position is responsible for enhancing the educational experience of students by removing or modifying health-related barriers to learning by providing specialized, professional level nursing care to participants in the School Health Program. This nurse works with children with special needs and is responsible for assessing the children, formulating plans of care, carrying out these care plans, training staff members how to carry out the care plans, and providing ongoing monitoring of the children’s care. The goal is to provide the optimal education experience for the special needs child based on his/her needs and abilities. This is a 10-month position.
All Public Health School Nurses may be required to work 2-4 Saturday immunization clinics per year to increase vaccine compliance rates for students within the Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools and may be required to provide emergency response in the event of an emergent Public Health situation.
**10 month nurses will be off during the summer months and this time is unpaid.

Minimum qualifications include:
Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Individuals hired without a rotation through a public health department as part of educational requirement will be required to complete Introduction to the Public Health Nursing course within one year of hire.
Driver's License is required.
