General Statement of Duties
Forsyth County Department of Public Health is searching for Public Health Nurse II to join the team. Refugees often face unique health challenges, including communicable diseases, and barriers related to language and cultural differences. A dedicated Refugee Nurse is essential to address these needs through targeted health assessments, care coordination, immunization support, education, and linkage to health and social services.
There is also a risk that this population may not be able to complete the necessary documentation to maintain their legal status in the United States, this RN will complete necessary I-693 paperwork during separate patient appointments.
Distinguishing Features
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs;
Working knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles and practices of public health;
Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health;
Knowledge of available resources and organizations in the community;
Ability to record accurately the services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees;
Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions and;
Ability to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information, and to maintain effective working relationships.
Minimum Education And Experience
Graduation from a four year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a public health nursing rotation and one year of professional nursing experience in specialty area; or
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience in specialty area assigned.
Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Individuals hired without a rotation through a public health department as part of educational requirement will be required to complete Introduction to the Public Health Nursing course within one year of hire.
A valid Drivers License is required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Conducting initial health screenings for newly arrived refugees.
Providing culturally appropriate health education and navigation support.
Coordinating with other community organizations to ensure continuity of care.
Improving long-term health outcomes among refugee populations.
Supporting public health goals and compliance with state and federal refugee health mandates.
