Job summary

Jefferson County Public Health is seeking a Public Health Nurse I or II to join the Communicable Disease team. The role encompasses skilled nursing and administrative duties to support grant deliverables and immunization services. You will work with investigators, staff vaccine clinics, and provide education to clients and communities.

The position involves case investigations, data entry, outbreak reporting, and coordination with clinics and community partners to advance public health goals.

Qualifications

• PHN I requires Public Health Nursing Certification or a four-year B.A. degree.
• PHN II requires a BSN and at least two years of Public Health nursing experience; advanced degree may substitute.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and report incidences of communicable diseases; conduct case investigations and counseling.
• Enter case data in WA State DOH database and identify outbreaks.
• Staff immunization clinics and administer vaccines, including COVID-19; manage supplies and records.
• Provide harm reduction services and Naloxone training and referrals.
• Consult with medical providers on complex cases and refer clients to community supports.
• Educate individuals and groups on health promotion and maintain confidential records.

Public Health Nurse I or II

Jefferson County Public Health is a valued and trusted resource, always working for a safer and healthier community. Join our Communicable Disease team! This position offers a unique opportunity to work in the public health setting performing a full range of skilled nursing functions as well as administrative duties in support of special program areas meeting grant deliverables. This individual will work within our team of Communicable Disease investigators and across clinics serving clients seeking Immunizations and Harm Reduction Program services.

Responsibilities include:

• Investigate and report incidences of communicable diseases in Jefferson County; receive lab results and identify reportable cases; perform case investigations and provide findings, contact identification, notification, and counseling services to individuals with communicable diseases or health conditions, including SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19), STIs, and TB.
• Enter case data in WA State DOH database.
• Identify and report outbreaks.
• Staff Immunization clinics and administer vaccinations to children and adults, including COVID-19 vaccinations; order supplies and vaccines for clinics; complete accountability reports; maintain records. May staff off-site clinics, including vaccination clinics.
• Staff Harm Reduction Program clinics and provide related harm reduction strategies including Naloxone training and distribution, nurse care navigation, and referral to community supports.
• Provide consultation to medical providers for difficult and complex cases; serve as an internal consultant or resource person.
• Refer clients to other appropriate community agencies and facilitate linkages.
• Educate and instruct individuals and groups of all ages in health promotion activities.
• Keep confidential patient health records and statistical data.
• Meet grant deliverables in a timely and succinct manner.
• Research infectious disease issues to remain abreast of outbreaks with any changes in treatment or epidemiological practices.
• Stay up-to-date with COVID-19 prevention and evolving guidelines; on guidance and vaccination recommendations; serve as a resource for providers, Schools, and other partners.
• Prepare work flow procedures, forms, instructional materials, surveys and promotional materials.
• Participate in creating a positive work environment that promotes productivity, mentoring, teamwork, and cooperation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education And/or Experience:

• PHN I: Public Health Nursing Certification from an NLN accredited program and/or a Bachelors degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university.
• PHN II: Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from a college or university accredited by the National League of Nursing; and a minimum of two (2) years Public Health nursing experience in a Public Health agency. An appropriate advanced nursing degree or extensive clinical nursing practice in a variety of settings may be substituted for the two (2) years of Public Health Nursing experience.
• Valid Washington State Driver's License.

Hours & Compensation:

• PHN I Grade 33, starting pay typically $35.47/hr. Full hourly range $35.47-$43.62, DOE.
• PHN II Grade 35, starting pay typically $38.20/hr. Full hourly range $38.20-$46.98, DOE.
• UFCW, 32 hrs/wk with benefits. Full medical benefits, including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State DRS. Plus 12 days of vacation, 11 paid holidays, sick leave, and bereavement leave.
