Job summary

The Western Tidewater Health District within the Virginia Department of Health seeks a Public Health Nurse to provide nursing care in Isle of Wight and Suffolk clinics, covering multiple programs such as Family Planning, STI, immunizations and communicable diseases.

The role requires RN licensure in Virginia, BLS/CPR certification, ability to travel, and the capacity to work independently while collaborating with the health team to assess, plan and implement patient care and public health

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Virginia required to provide professional nursing care.
• Ability to conduct health assessments, physical exams and counseling.
• Willingness to travel to Isle of Wight and Suffolk clinics; some weekend/evening hours may be required.
• Knowledge of public health nursing concepts, epidemiology, immunizations and case management.
• BLS/CPR certification required.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical services in Family Planning, STI, immunization and communicable disease programs.
• Perform direct nursing care in clinics and develop care plans.
• Conduct nursing assessments, order tests, and administer medications.
• Engage in case management and participate in public health emergencies and community health assessments.
• May supervise support staff.
