Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers in the Blue Ridge Health District seeks a Public Health Nurse to provide immunization, screening, and disease investigation across Louisa and district clinics. The role includes in-home Medicaid eligibility screenings and school/sports physicals, with a focus on wellness across the lifespan.

The ideal candidate is a practicing RN with public health experience, flexible to travel within the district, and committed to high-quality community health services.

Qualifications

• Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities
• Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique
• Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public
• Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management
• May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required
• Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR

Responsibilities

• Provide immunization services and tuberculosis screening and management across multiple district clinics
• Conduct communicable disease investigations and Newcomer Health assessments
• Deliver contraception and sexual health services to the community
• Perform in-home screenings for Medicaid eligibility for long-term services
• Conduct clinic-based childhood school and sports physicals
• Maintain a consistent weekly schedule and contribute to a caring, dynamic work environment
