Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Public Health Consultant to supervise a technical group overseeing building water systems, drive hazard identification, and mitigate risks in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and premise plumbing. You will collaborate with engineers, water treatment specialists, and stakeholders to strengthen public health outcomes.

The role emphasizes leadership, program strategy shaping, and decision-making latitude to advance waterborne disease

Qualifications

Ten years of full-time engineering experience with multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with government/regulatory programs or public health initiatives.
Experience reviewing engineering plans and technical specifications.
Master's or PhD in Engineering from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

Supervise engineering and scientist staff providing technical expertise on building water systems related to water safety and public health.
Identify and troubleshoot factors contributing to waterborne disease risks in the built environment.
Review blueprints, engineering plans and technical specifications.
Research and evaluate regulations and industry standards related to building, construction, and safety codes.
Provide leadership and mentoring in plan review, construction inspections, and operations and maintenance assessments.
Develop and maintain SOPs, quality checklists, and scopes of work for technical services and contracts.
