Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an attorney to join the Office of General Counsel’s Enforcement Unit to handle administrative litigation and city-wide health enforcement actions.

The role involves representing the agency at hearings, researching and drafting legal papers, and coordinating with multiple city agencies to promote compliance with health laws and regulations. Travel to courts in NYC may be required.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the New York State Bar and eligible to practice law in New York.
• Experience with enforcement or regulatory matters is preferred.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical capabilities are essential.

Responsibilities

• Represent the agency at hearings, conferences and trials before OATH.
• Research and prepare briefs, orders, motions, legal opinions and memoranda.
• Receive and assess complaints with Department programs to determine enforcement needs.
• Work with Department programs to improve enforcement and compliance.
• Liaise with Law Department, state and city agencies and prepare reports.
• Travel to courts in New York City when required.
• Maintain sensitive and confidential information; manage deadlines.
