Job summary

The NYC Health Department's Office of General Counsel seeks an experienced attorney to oversee the Enforcement Unit and manage administrative litigation to ensure citywide compliance with public health laws. You will design case strategies, supervise proceedings, and coordinate with other city agencies as part of a proactive enforcement program.

Additionally, you will represent the agency at hearings and trials, supervise staff, and advise department programs on enforcement procedures and policy

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar and four years of recent full-time legal experience.
• Supervision of other attorneys for at least 18 months.
• Experience with administrative hearings and enforcement actions is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent the agency at hearings, conferences and trials before OATH.
• Research and prepare briefs, orders, motions, and legal memoranda.
• Assess complaints with Department programs to determine enforcement action.
• Advise programs on enforcement procedures and compliance strategies.
• Liaise with the Law Department and state/city agencies.
