Purpose

The Public Health Educator plans, manages, and evaluates publichealth education initiatives for the Scales Neighborhood Nursing Program at theindividual, group, and community levels.

Essential Functions

Program Coordination

  • Develop, plan, and oversee the implementation of publichealth education initiatives tailored to the Scales Neighborhood Nursing (SNN)Program.
  • Coordinate efforts with Public Health Nurses and other teammembers to ensure seamless integration of educational components into programservices.
  • Monitor programmatic activities and ensure their alignmentwith health equity goals and organizational objectives.
  • Maintain partnerships with community organizations and othergovernmental entities to support programmatic delivery and sustainability.
  • Provide resources for clients who need MHD or communityresources.

Community Outreach, Education, and Navigation

  • Identify health educationdisparities in the community and plan, develop, and implement interventions.
  • Assist in thedevelopment and design of health promotion and disease prevention educationmaterials and sessions that are tailored to the target audience.
  • Engage with andadvocate for the community to build trust, assess health educational needs, andelevate their concerns to programmatic leadership and stakeholders.
  • Promote awarenessof program services through community outreach events, workshops, anddistribution of educational materials.
  • Expand communitypartnerships and relationships by attending community meetings and eventsrelated to health and wellbeing.
  • Serve as a liaisonfor the SNN program.
  • Utilize variousdelivery channels to assist with education, including in-person, online, andprint.

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and othercomputer databases to record client information and communication.
  • Aid in compiling, preparing, and maintaining operations andoutreach data/reports.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on programmatic outcomes,community engagement, and health education activities.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of public health education interventionsand adjust strategies as needed.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to share programmaticimpact with stakeholders and to inform decision-making.
  • Maintain files and accurate records of program activitiesand ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

Conditions of Employment

Public Health Educator I and II must be willing and able todo the following:

  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Must travel between and/or work at the Keenan, South Side,and Northwest Health Centers, and perform work functions at locations throughoutMilwaukee.
  • May travel outside the City of Milwaukee, occasionallyovernight, to attend training and conferences.
  • May be required to carry a mobile device during businesshours.
  • May be exposed to infectious agents or toxins.
  • Must wear industry-related personal protective equipment(PPE) such as gloves, facemask, or face shield.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb stairs, and sit andoccasionally move/lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to an emergency and/or broad impactevent.
  • Required pre-employment vaccines include:
    • TB Test (at time of hire and annually through-out employment)

Both Positions

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, humanservices, health education, health science or a related field from anaccredited college or university.
  • Valid driver’s license and possession of a properly insuredvehicle for use on the job at the time of appointment and throughout employment.Private Auto Allowance May Be Paid Pursuant to Section 350-183 of The MilwaukeeCode.

Public Health Educator II

  • One year of professional experience in public health,community outreach, human services, or health education performing dutiesclosely related to the essential functions listed above.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered. Public Health Educator II candidates must possess one year of professionalexperience in public health, community outreach, human services or healtheducation performing duties closely related to the essential function of theposition; education may not be substituted for the one year of experience.

Public Health Educator I

  • The current salary range (Pay Range 2BN) is$48,641 -$55,598annually,and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis$50,100-$57,266annually.Appointment above the minimum ispossible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subjectto approval.

Public Health Educator II

  • The current salary range (Pay Range 2DN) is$53,914-$63,140annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City ofMilwaukee residents is$55,532-$65,034annually.Appointmentabove the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and otherqualifications and is subject to approval.
