Public Health Educator I-51110 Open to candidates who are permanent or to those who successfully filed for PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATOR Exam No. 5119 within the filing period From: October 9, 2024 To: October 29, 2024.

The Environmental Exposure Assessment and Education Program is comprised of the Risk Assessment and Adult Lead Poisoning Prevention units (RAU and ALP) and the Education and Community Partnerships Unit (ECPU). RAU oversees the Bureau's community investigations of contaminated consumer products; ALP provides surveillance, environmental risk assessment and education to NYC adults with elevated blood lead levels; and ECPU provides support to the Bureau's environmental education and outreach activities.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

1. Conduct presentations virtually and in-person to community groups
2. Represent Program at meetings with partner agencies and organizations
3. Conduct outreach to develop partnerships with other agencies and organizations
4. Coordinate outreach events with internal and external agency partners
5. Respond to telephone and correspondence requests for information from the public, including providing coverage for the lead information hotline
6. Maintain records/datasets to document activities using internal databases

PREFERRED SKILLS:

1. Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as interpersonal, communications (including public speaking), and internet search skills
2. Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
3. Creative problem-solver, sound judgment and decision-making skills
4. Experience conducting educational presentations
5. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple priorities
6. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
7. Spanish speaking is a plus

PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATOR - 51110

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in: (a) developing public health education programs, including identifying target populations, conducting needs assessments, designing educational materials, planning educational presentations or workshops, and evaluating health education programs; (b) presenting public health education programs; and/or (c) counseling in areas such as communicable diseases, substance abuse, assault, sexual abuse, and/or family planning; or

2. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following areas: public health education, education, public/community health administration, public administration or business administration and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above.

For Assignment Level II
In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" above, to be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have two additional years of full-time satisfactory experience, for a total of four years of experience for candidates with a baccalaureate degree, and two years for candidates with a master's degree.

For Assignment Level III
In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" above, to be assigned to Assignment Level III, candidates must have three additional years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above, for a total of five years of experience for candidates with a baccalaureate degree, and three years for candidates with a master's degree; at least one year of which, in either case, must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
