Job summary

The Whatcom County Health Department seeks a Public Health professional to plan, coordinate, and supervise the daily operations of the Health Information and Assessment unit within Health and Community Services.

Supervises professional staff responsible for epidemiology, assessment, surveillance, program performance management, health informatics, data management, and population health analytics to support evidence-based public health practice and organizational decision‑making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in epidemiology, health informatics, statistics, data science, health information management, or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience, including at least three (3) years of lead or supervisor experience.
• Master's degree in epidemiology, health informatics, statistics, data science, health information management, or a closely related field. Experience working in a public health department or local health jurisdiction.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the daily operations of the Health Information and Assessment unit.
• Coordinates epidemiology, surveillance, assessment, health informatics, and population health data activities.
• Oversees the collection, management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of public health information.
• Provides technical consultation to department leadership by interpreting public health data.
• Guides the development, enhancement, and effective use of health information systems.
