Job description

Robinson+Cole, a Vault “Top Ranked” Am Law 200 firm, seeks an associate with at least two years of experience to join the Public Finance team in the Boston, Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia, Stamford, or Washington DC offices. This is an exciting opportunity for the selected candidate to play a central role in structuring and executing public finance transactions while developing strong client-facing and deal management skills.

Our nationally recognized Public Finance practice group provides comprehensive legal services to support the finance-related needs of our private and public sector clients nationwide. We serve as counsel to state and local governments, issuers, underwriters, investors, and private placement lenders. One of the first nationally recognized bond counsel firms in the country, Robinson+Cole has been listed in The Bond Buyer’s Municipal Marketplace (Red Book) since the early 1940s and routinely ranks among the leaders, both nationally and regionally, as bond counsel and underwriters’ counsel.

This position offers exposure to complex, high-impact transactions involving governmental issuers, institutional investors, nonprofit organizations, and major financial market participants, with a primary focus on the affordable housing, student housing, and workforce housing sectors. The role also entails serving as bond counsel, representing the public finance group in debt issuance and restructuring matters, and other types of bond transactions.

This is a truly unique opportunity for someone to join a team of experienced public finance lawyers and contribute to critical public infrastructure projects. We’re looking for candidates with at least two years of experience working on deals involving state and local governments in any legal capacity. Top academic and transactional credentials are required, along with strong writing, research, negotiation, and communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate both experience and aptitude with a broad range of financial concepts; prior work in banking or consumer finance is advantageous. Those who thrive here will enjoy a fast-paced, collaborative environment with direct access to partners, flexible work arrangements, and excellent opportunities for long-term career growth. Ideally, the new team member will have a solid background in public finance, especially in structuring bond transactions, with expertise in municipal bonds. Please note that all R+C attorneys must be admitted in the state of their primary office location.

DC, Massachusetts, and New York Applicants: The target base salary range for this position is $190,000 to $217,500. Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's class year, years of experience, skills, and qualifications.

R+C supports the flexibility provided by a hybrid work model. Our attorneys are asked to work in the office a minimum of 2-3 days per week to benefit from in-person connection and collaboration. We also offer a competitive compensation package which includes medical, dental, paid vacation, paid sick days, a 401(k) plan, and a variety of other benefits.
