Job summary

The City of Saint Paul’s Department of Planning and Economic Development is hiring a Business Solutions Supervisor. This highly visible role serves as a key contact for the local business community and policymakers while overseeing a team of navigators.

It involves community engagement, operational leadership, and driving economic development initiatives. The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $109,000–$119,000 annually.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in urban planning, housing development, or economic development.
• Experience supervising staff and managing projects.
• Ability to work with policymakers and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with the business community and associations and represent the City in public settings.
• Supervise an assigned team, including planning and assigning work, managing performance, developing employees, hiring staff, and addressing performance or disciplinary matters.
• Lead complex business services and economic development initiatives involving business outreach, zoning, planning, licensing, funding programs, and real estate transactions.
• Serve as an expert resource and navigator for businesses, connecting them with appropriate City departments, programs, resources, and external partners.
• Develop and monitor program budgets, reporting and compliance requirements, performance measures, and program outcomes.
• Translate departmental priorities into actionable work plans and provide reports, presentations, project proposals, and policy recommendations to department leadership, stakeholders, and elected officials.
