Job summary

Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) in Delaware seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to lead skilled maintenance teams, oversee facility improvements, and coordinate with contractors. You will ensure critical mechanical systems operate safely and efficiently, supporting long-term infrastructure upgrades across the state.

The role requires multi-trades experience, supervision skills, and a focus on preventive maintenance programs within a government facility setting.

Qualifications

• Three years experience in operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, hand and power tools used in trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Three years experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Six months experience in interpreting safety and building codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Six months experience in estimating cost, time and materials for projects.
• Six months experience in interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
• Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.
• Knowledge of planning, directing and implementing maintenance and preventative maintenance programs involving all aspects of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

• Supervision is exercised over two or more merit full-time positions working in a variety of mechanical/trades fields per the Merit Rules.
• Designs sketches and prints of remodeling that needs to be done and inspects the work.
• Coordinates and works with contractors, architects and others on large construction projects.
• Assists in projecting budget for maintenance operations and report preparation.
• Oversees the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, pumps, water and other treatment installations.
• May supervise grounds maintenance or custodial workers.
