Job summary

Georgia Public Defender Council in Waycross seeks an Assistant Public Defender at APD 1–4 level to represent indigent defendants in the Superior Courts of the Waycross Judicial Circuit.

The role requires a Juris Doctorate and Georgia Bar licensure (or eligibility) with commitment to indigent defense and service in the State of Georgia. Training and mentorship are provided within a state employment framework.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
• License to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar exam.
• Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law within one year of hiring or by reciprocity.

Responsibilities

• Zealously represents indigent clients at all appropriate stages of the criminal process.
• Evaluates each case for referrals to accountability courts, diversion programs, and social services.
• Experienced attorneys provide training, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced attorneys.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
